New Mahindra XUV500 launched in India

After unveiling its much awaited global SUV (sports utility vehicle) – XUV 500 on Wednesday, the Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra will be revealing the specifications and pricing details of the car today. In the first of its kind launch in the Indian auto market, SUV lovers got a first glimpse of the Mahindra XUV 500 on Wednesday. The company has also launched an interactive micro site for the new SUV, where car enthusiast can digitally uncover the all new XUV 500 with a simple drag of mouse.

Powered by a 2.2L common-rail diesel engine - same as available in Scorpio - the Mahindra XUV 500 delivers a maximum power of approximately 140 bhp along with top torque of nearly 33 kgm. With this power and torque, the new Mahindra SUV is expected to be a close competitor to the likes of Skoda Yeti and Tata Aria. The SUV will be carrying both six speed manual and automatic transmission versions.

The unique features of the new Mahindra XUV 500 will include SRS airbags, ESP (electronic stability program) with ABS (antilock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), steering mounted controls for audio, 235/65 R17 Bridgestone Dueler HT tyres, and many more.

Besides India, the new XUV500 will be launched in a number of world markets including South Africa where its Scorpio has already strengthened company's position. Though the company is yet to reveal the pricing details for the car, it is expected that the new Mahindra XUV500 price will be kept in the range of Rs 14 lakh to 18 lakh.

Mahindra and Mahindra has shaked the D-segment SUV market with the launch of its all New World SUV. Mahindra has announced the official name as XUV500. The Mahindra XUV500 has been developed from scratch and only one thing is common in Scorpio and XUV500 - the mHawk diesel engine (which has also been fine-tuned to develop 140 bhp of maximum power and 330 nm of maximum torque). XUV500 has been in talks from last one year, now the time has come and Mahindra has finally launched the XUV500. Mahindra has priced the base model of XUV500 very competitively at Rs. 10.80 lakhs only (Ex-showroom New Delhi). Produced in Mahindra's Rs 2500 crore plant at Chakan, the total investment behind the project has been Rs 650 crore. XUV500 has been tested over 2.35 mn kms, with over 250 prototypes being built. Conceptualized with the aim of creating an altogether new category between the Scorpio and high end SUVs, the XUV500 is the next generation SUV targeted at Generation X, where the double O connotes the added Oomph value in the product.
